Location: San Francisco Bay Area/New York

Overview of your business: We are a husband-and-wife wedding cinematography studio serving San Francisco, New York and destinations worldwide. Our goal is to show couples the value and artistry of a wedding film, use our skills to document their public declaration of love in a beautiful, timeless and unobtrusive way, and help preserve the memory of their wedding for generations to come. We’re very passionate about documenting all the expected and unexpected moments that occur at a wedding, and creating films that capture the essence and feel of a wedding while remaining unobtrusive and respectful.

How did you start your business:  It all happened very quickly and serendipitously! We’ve both worked in the wedding industry in different capacities, and we’ve also worked a lot in other fields. We were really inspired by the amazing vendors we had at our wedding, and some even became close friends (friendors?). We thought about our different skills (David’s experience in film and Lindsay’s experience in customer service), and realized that we could start something really special. We were both at a time in our lives where it seemed like a good time to go for it!

Favorite Thing To Video at a Wedding: It’s always changing, but the dancing is so fun! Being a part of friends and families (especially grandmas) coming together on the dance floor is pure joy.

Favorite Part of the Wedding Day: Pre-ceremony. It’s so moving to watch the bride and groom preparing to get married – there is so much excitement and anticipation!

What Makes Your Business Unique and Special? We firmly believe that a wedding should be documented, not set-up or recreated. We like to “disappear,” filming in an unobtrusive way that respects and captures the emotions of the day. We don’t run down the aisle with Steadicams, no one will ever have to hit a “mark,” and we’ll never ask for a second “take” because the light wasn’t perfect.

Favorite Wedding Trend:  It’s not really a “trend,” but we love that more and more couples are choosing to do a first-look before they head down the aisle. It’s so nice to have that intimate, quiet moment before the day gets going.

Least Favorite Wedding Trend: A lot of wonderful videographers offer same-day edits, but we prefer not to halt the day by showing guests moments that just happened. A wedding day already goes by so quickly, we like to let the couple and their guests be present for all the moments as they happen!

Ideal Couple: People who are open to us getting to know them, and getting to know us. We want to create a relationship with couples before showing up to their wedding so that they are comfortable and relaxed and feel that they are in the presence of friends! Also, we’d love to work with couples who have given thoughtful attention to bringing personal details into their day – people who really want their wedding to be about them, not what it “should” be.

1 Thing You Hope to Accomplish in Your Business This Year: We’d really like to give back to our community, and find more ways to use our skills and services to help others.

3 Random Facts About You: 1) We live on a farm.  2) We love to travel.  3) We really want to get a dog.

Danielle’s experience with Joel & why she recommends him:

Danielle says: Joel is young just like I am. I feel like we share the same passion & drive to be amazing, no matter how old we are. When I first met Joel, we instantly clicked and while talking throughout the wedding day, realized we had a mutual friend, who is one of my very good friends. It’s such a small world! I worked with Joel & his sister at Whitney & Robert’s wedding in 2011, and they made it so easy to work with them!! We worked around each other, trading off when we wanted/needed the same shot. He makes working with a videographer so easy:)

Aubrea Felch // Event Videographer

How did you start your business: I actually never set out to be a wedding videographer, but it was just meant to be! I had been doing some video work when one of my best friends referred me to do her step brother’s wedding. I took on the challenge and edited the footage by the end of the reception, which ended up being a great marketing strategy (unbeknownst to me…). I did a few weddings for free before I realized that I could actually charge something, and it’s history from there!

Favorite thing to video at a wedding: Sunset photos. Hands down. Lens flare is my best friend and can make anything look glamorous.

Favorite part of the wedding day: I love the vows, especially when they are personally written by the bride and groom. I have been caught tearing up a bit while filming… and even editing later on!

What makes you and your business unique & special? I like to think I bring many things to the table! First, I am outgoing and friendly, and that has been one of the best things for me in this business – I make people feel comfortable. Second, I catch the right candid moments, and have an eye for what is special to that couple in particular, whether it be a certain family member, or details that they poured their heart into. Finally, my style is extremely unobtrusive. I am a fly on the wall, and film what I see, so each of my videos is unique to the couple and showcases their relationship perfectly.

Favorite wedding trend: Casual bridesmaid dresses from Anthropology or Urban Outfitters. Or having moustaches/sunglasses on sticks at each table. Or anything hand made!

Least favorite wedding trend: Playing “Single Ladies” for the bouquet toss – my second shooter and I make bets on it now!

Ideal couple: An engaged one.:D

1 thing you hope you do or accomplish in your business this year: I want to learn how to be a better business woman, learn new techniques, and continue to learn more about equipment. So… I suppose I simply want to learn.

3 random facts about you:
1. I sneeze whenever I pluck my eyebrows.
2. During the summer, I teach art at a summer camp for kids.
3. My name means “Leader of the Elves.” And I’m short. Also refer to random fact #2.

Anything else you want clients to know:
I’m not opposed to helping start the dance party at the reception. If that’s something you may need, no charge!;)

Danielle’s experience with Aubrea & why she recommends her:

Danielle says: I met Aubrea while photographing Lindsey & Trevor’s wedding last year! She was so full of energy and super super sweet!! We worked together super well, never getting in each others way and always looking out for the other person when they needed a certain shot. She even busted some moves on the dance floor, along with her second shooter. Basically they are just super fun people who even after 8 hours of shooting, still have the energy to dance!
